Youth Firefighter Program: Apply by May 16

Ready to pursue your dream of becoming a firefighter? The New Westminster Youth Firefighter Program (YFFP) is the perfect opportunity for students in grades 10 - 12 interested in a firefighting career.

The New Westminster Youth Firefighter Program (YFFP) is a collaborative initiative between The Justice Institute of B.C., New Westminster School District, New Westminster Fire Department, and the City of New Westminster.

This exciting program offers a condensed and immersive fire academy-like experience, providing instruction on firefighting skills, personal protective equipment, and first aid. With regular attendance required, you'll be fully engaged in the program, which aims to give you a taste of the firefighting profession.


The YFP is designed to be a fun, educational, physical, and mentally stimulating program, perfect for those interested in pursuing a career in the fire service. Download an application form below and be ready for an interview to potentially be selected for the program.


KEY DATES

Friday, May 16, 5:00 pm Application deadline

May 20-21 Physical Abilities Testing May 26 - May 30: In-person interviews with New Westminster’s Youth Services and Fire Department representatives.  Tuesday, June 17: 7:00 - 8:00 pm Mandatory info session for youth and parents

July 7 - 11, 8:30 am - 4:30 pm Education, training and live firefighting


APPLICATION DEADLINE: Friday, May 16, 2025

Note: Preference will be given to applicants who are residents of New Westminster, but applicants do not have to live within the city limits.
